Terms
How a booking works
Nothing on this page is a contract. A written quotation for your school sets the terms, and it will say the same as this.
- Blocks, not drop-ins
- Programmes are booked as a block: six weeks, eight weeks, twelve weeks, or a full year agreed in advance. A block is how a programme builds, and it is also how after-school activities work in most schools.
- Group minimums
- Each programme has a minimum number of children. If a group does not reach its minimum it does not run and nobody is charged. That is stated up front so a school is never chasing families to fill a group.
- Chess sets
- Teaching materials come with the programme whatever the length of the block. For blocks of twelve weeks or more, the chess sets are included as part of it: boards, pieces, transport, storage and replacing anything that goes missing. Below twelve weeks the school provides sets, hires a set for the block, or buys a classroom kit that stays the school's property. Whichever applies to your school is confirmed in writing in the quotation before anything starts.
- Missed sessions
- The fee covers the block rather than individual attendance, as with most after-school activities. A session cancelled by us, for any reason, is rescheduled or refunded. That is our problem, not the family's.
- No private lessons
- Little Chess Explorers teaches groups inside schools and does not take individual pupils privately. The reason is on the why chess page and it is a rule rather than a preference.
- Prices
- Any figure shown anywhere on this site is indicative. Session length and term length differ from school to school, so the only price that counts is the one in your written quotation.
Dates
Every block has its dates agreed with the school before families are told anything, and those dates go on your school's own booking page along with any week there is no session. Mid-term breaks and school closures are worked around, not charged for.
Anything here that is not clear enough for your Board of Management goes to [email protected] and gets answered in writing.
